A series of violent incidents has occurred in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro. In late September, a man named Robson Portela de Aguiar was shot and killed inside his home in the Guarani neighborhood. His wife reported hearing someone shout “perdeu, perdeu” (you lost) before gunshots were fired, and observed a suspect in black clothing and a balaclava fleeing the scene.

On October 9, a separate shooting took place at a snack bar on the Itaúna waterfront. Four armed men in a black vehicle opened fire on a beach kiosk, resulting in the death of Luan César Avellar Incutto Ferreira, known as “Luan de Itaúna.” The attack also wounded six others, including professional athletes such as South American surfing champion Rickson Falcão, skater Pedro Magalhães Marchi, and surfer Kauã Vilhena. Civil Police are investigating both incidents.
