The goal is to secure an investment package of approximately R$ 1.5 billion between 2027 and 2030 for terminal expansions and a new runway. Minister of Ports and Airports Tomé Franca indicated that the government is seeking a consensual solution with the Attorney General's Office to resolve disputes with the current concessionaire, Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos, regarding cargo handling fees and unpaid concession fees. In parallel to these administrative developments, the airport continues to manage large scale logistics and passenger surges. The facility is handling the transport of 800 tons of Formula 1 equipment via nine Boeing aircraft, a task it has performed for 25 consecutive years. Additionally, the airport is preparing for a significant increase in passenger traffic during the All Souls Day holiday, with Viracopos alone anticipating 174,000 passengers. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-29: Viracopos Airport manages Formula 1 logistics and holiday passenger surge Viracopos Airport is handling 800 tons of Formula 1 equipment via Boeing aircraft while preparing for 245,000 holiday travelers in Campinas. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/viracopos-airport-manages-formula-1-logistics-and-holiday-passenger-surge ### 2026-10-08: Viracopos Airport concession renegotiation targets R$ 1.5 billion investment The Brazilian government seeks to renegotiate the Viracopos International Airport concession, targeting R$ 1.5 billion in investments for infrastructure by 2027-2030. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/viracopos-airport-concession-renegotiation-targets-r-15-billion-investment --- Cite as: Viracopos International Airport operations and management.
