Developments: 2. No. 24 SMU defeated the University of Virginia 23-13 at Gerald J. Ford Stadium, extending the Mustangs’ undefeated home record in ACC play since joining the conference in 2024. SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings threw two touchdown passes during the contest and surpassed 10,000 career passing yards. Running back Kendrick Raphael added 124 rushing yards to the victory. The SMU defense, led by linebacker Alexander Kilgore, limited Virginia to 137 passing yards. Virginia struggled offensively, totaling only 258 yards and scoring just three points in the second half. The Cavaliers’ performance was hampered by the roster attrition previously noted, including the absences of wide receivers Kam Courtney and Rico Flores Jr., as well as defensive backs Omillio Agard and Corey Costner. Momentum shifts during the game were attributed to a critical fumble by Virginia quarterback Beau Pribula and a late roughing-the-passer penalty in the first half. With the result, SMU moves to 5-1 overall, while Virginia falls to 4-3. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-17: SMU defeats Virginia 23-13 to extend home ACC winning streak No. 24 SMU defeated Virginia 23-13 in Dallas, led by Kevin Jennings' two touchdown passes and a strong defensive effort that held the Cavaliers to 258 total yards. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/smu-hosts-virginia-in-acc-matchup-amid-virginia-injury-concerns ### 2026-10-15: Virginia football faces injury crisis ahead of SMU matchup Virginia football faces a must-win game against No. 24 SMU while dealing with significant defensive injuries, including season-ending and doubtful statuses for key players. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/virginia-football-faces-injury-crisis-ahead-of-smu-matchup --- Cite as: Virginia and SMU ACC football matchup.
