Visa has expanded its blockchain infrastructure through the development of the Visa Stablecoin Platform (VSP). This ‘wallet-as-a-service’ toolkit is designed to assist banks and fintech firms in managing, issuing, and redeeming stablecoins, with initial support for Open USD and future plans for USDC. Alongside this platform, Visa is testing an on-chain lending solution that integrates stablecoin-based card program financing with VisaNet settlement data via smart contracts.

In a related study titled ‘Money Travels 2026’, Visa reported on consumer sentiment regarding digital assets in the United States. A survey of 2,192 Americans by Morning Consult found that while 56% of U.S. adults have never heard of stablecoins, interest in using them for international transfers increases from 36% to 56% if hypothetical bank-level fraud protections and deposit insurance were available. Adoption intent also rises to 45% if stablecoins are provided through existing, trusted financial institutions. Findings suggest that 64% of respondents prioritize the identity of the service provider over the underlying technology when determining trust.

Recent research expands this scope to the Asia-Pacific region, where a survey of 14,250 people found that 46% are open to using stablecoins within the next five years. While 49% of respondents believe stablecoins could become a common method for cross-border transfers, a technical knowledge gap persists, with only 6% demonstrating a correct understanding of how they function. Nischint Sanghavi, Visa’s head of digital currencies for Asia-Pacific, noted a “significant shift” in regional perception. To support this, Visa is working to expand its settlement network, while partner Reap prepares local currency stablecoins for 24-hour foreign exchange settlement, potentially including tokens pegged to the Hong Kong dollar, Japanese yen, and South Korean won.
