Visa is expanding its integration of stablecoins into its global payment infrastructure. Initially, the company announced that Visa Direct would utilize Zerohash infrastructure to enable stablecoin prefunding and cross-border payouts, a move intended to “unlock stablecoin use cases at the core network level.”

Following this, Visa issued a request for proposals to find a new partner for stablecoin settlement and over-the-counter operations. This search was prompted by Mastercard’s acquisition of BVNK, a former infrastructure provider for Visa. The new partner must hold cryptocurrency exchange licenses in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Singapore to support settlement services and transactions for Open USD, a stablecoin project involving Visa, Mastercard, and Stripe.
