The 48th Vladimir Herzog Journalism Award for Amnesty and Human Rights was held in São Paulo to honor journalistic works defending democracy, freedom of the press, and human rights.

In the photography category, Tomaz Silva of Agência Brasil received recognition for his work titled ‘Viúva se despede do marido morto na operação policial mais letal do Rio de Janeiro’ (Widow says goodbye to husband killed in Rio's deadliest police operation). The photograph, taken in October 2025 at Complexo da Penha, depicts Fernanda da Silva Martins embracing her partner’s body. Silva noted that the award recognizes the pain of many victims of police violence.

Other honors included the video category award for TV Brasil’s ‘Caminhos da Reportagem’ regarding domestic slave labor, specifically the episode ‘Trabalho escravo doméstico: silêncio e servidão’ aired in April 2026, which explores the lives of women subjected to conditions analogous to slavery and discusses improvements for post-rescue support. A Special Vladimir Herzog Award was presented to journalist Jamil Chade for his international coverage of justice and democracy. The ceremony also included a posthumous tribute to cartoonist Paulo Caruso. The event emphasized the role of journalism in preserving memory and denouncing human rights violations.
