The Vuelta a España has been marked by extreme weather conditions and various regulatory penalties. During the 14th stage, temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius forced several riders to abandon the race, including Hugo Houle and Jordan Labrosse. In response to these safety concerns, organizers shortened the 15th stage from 190 kilometers to 110 kilometers.
