Developments: 2. Waste management issues have emerged in various Italian locations, causing public dissatisfaction and hygiene concerns. In Bardonecchia and Osimo, residents have reported service interruptions and inadequate infrastructure. In Bardonecchia, the removal of bins near Via Sommeiller has forced citizens to walk longer distances, which critics argue creates safety risks for the elderly. In Osimo, the Neighborhood Council reported that limited bin capacity and malfunctioning access cards have led to trash accumulation and urban decay, noting that promised installations of new organic waste bins have not been completed. In the Borgo Mezzanone settlement near Foggia, a more severe crisis has developed following a three-week suspension of waste collection services. Francesca Stella of the Flai Cgil Foggia union reported that refuse piles have reached heights of over one meter, with recent rainfall turning waste into “liquid sludge.” The union has called for a meeting with the Prefecture of Foggia and the Puglia Region to address the deteriorating sanitary conditions in the settlement. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-08: Borgo Mezzanone faces waste collection crisis in migrant settlement Waste collection has been suspended for three weeks in the Borgo Mezzanone migrant settlement near Foggia, causing severe sanitary concerns for approximately 3,500 residents. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/borgo-mezzanone-faces-waste-collection-crisis-in-migrant-settlement ### 2026-10-05: Waste management issues spark complaints in Bardonecchia and Osimo Residents in Bardonecchia and Osimo are protesting local waste management issues, including the removal of bins and inadequate collection infrastructure in historic centers. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/waste-management-issues-spark-complaints-in-bardonecchia-and-osimo --- Cite as: Waste management service issues in Italy.
