Uganda has initiated several water and environmental projects through partnerships and infrastructure expansion. The Ministry of Water and Environment partnered with the Church of Uganda to promote fish farming and wetland restoration across 24 districts, an initiative supported by the Green Climate Fund and UNDP. Additionally, a solar-powered water supply system financed by India’s EXIM Bank was launched in Mityana District to serve over 20,000 residents.

Building on these efforts, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) announced a multi-billion expansion programme to address water supply challenges in Kampala and other urban centers. This includes laying 70 kilometers of pipelines and constructing reservoirs to combat intermittent supply caused by population growth. Concurrently, in Kenya, the National Council for Nomadic Education is seeking to develop water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure across 12 arid and semi-arid counties with support from the African Development Bank.
