In Conca de Barberà, the Consell Comarcal awarded a four-year contract to UTE Sanejament Conca de Barberà, a joint venture between TRANSPARENTA and FACSA. This contract, valued at approximately 1.1 million euros annually, focuses on the operation and maintenance of wastewater sanitation systems across several municipalities, including Montblanc and l’Espluga de Francolí. The initiative aims to improve energy efficiency and transition toward a ‘biofactory’ model by reusing treated water for industrial purposes. In the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, Veolia’s subsidiary, Sociedad General de Aguas de Barcelona (SGAB), secured a 25-year contract worth over €1 billion to manage drinking water services for eight municipalities. Serving roughly 230,000 residents, the agreement includes infrastructure modernization such as new leak detection systems, digitized operating centers, and the electrification of vehicle fleets. While the bidding process faced scrutiny regarding the competitiveness of the economic proposal, the Barcelona Metropolitan Council approved the concession. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-25: Veolia wins €1 billion water services contract in Barcelona Veolia has secured a €1 billion, 25-year contract to manage drinking water services for 230,000 people across eight municipalities in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/veolia-wins-1-billion-water-services-contract-in-barcelona ### 2026-10-14: Conca de Barberà awards wastewater sanitation contract The Consell Comarcal de la Conca de Barberà awarded a four-year, 1.1 million euro annual contract to UTE Sanejament Conca de Barberà for regional wastewater management and infrastructure upgrades. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/conca-de-barber-awards-wastewater-sanitation-contract --- Cite as: Water service management contracts in Catalonia.
