Waverley Borough Council is evaluating a £2 million proposal to develop a 20.9-acre site off Hale Road into a Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) near Farnham Park. 

This project, made in agreement with the Ismaili Trust, aims to alleviate recreational pressure on the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area. By improving local biodiversity and providing more parking for Farnham Park and St John’s Church, the initiative seeks to mitigate the environmental impact of new developments. Establishing this green space could potentially facilitate the construction of up to 532 new homes in the Farnham area, addressing planning requirements that have previously restricted local housing applications.
