Novo Nordisk is expanding the availability and administration methods of its semaglutide-based obesity medication, Wegovy. In Poland, the company is introducing a higher 7.2 mg weekly injectable dose, which clinical studies indicated provided an average weight reduction of 18.7%.

By November 2026, the company plans to launch an oral tablet version of Wegovy in France. This daily medication requires specific fasting protocols to ensure absorption, with dosages gradually increasing up to 25 mg per day. Efforts have also been made to secure health insurance coverage for the drug to manage obesity-related complications.

Medical research has also highlighted the risks of discontinuing GLP-1 therapies. A study of American veterans suggested that stopping treatment can lead to a resurgence of inflammation and weight regain, with a 22% higher risk of heart attack, stroke, or death two years after discontinuation compared to those who continued therapy.
