Werder Bremen has undergone a transition in its goalkeeper position following the departure of Mio Backhaus to SC Freiburg. Karl Hein has emerged as the successor, providing stability to the role.

During this period, Hein managed injury concerns after sustaining a thigh bruise during international duty with Estonia. While there was initial uncertainty regarding his fitness for a Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund, trainer Daniel Thioune indicated that Hein completed individual training and was expected to start. Alexander Schlager was noted as a prepared replacement should Hein be unable to play.

Club officials, including Head of Professional Football Peter Niemeyer, attributed the successful management of this transition to the work of goalkeeper coach Christian ‘Kiki’ Vander.
