To commemorate the milestone, the club unveiled a special white commemorative jersey featuring a historical emblem from 1924–1929. On September 26, 2026, the centenary celebrations culminated in an exhibition match between Werder Bremen legends and a Real Madrid legends squad. The event drew 40,000 fans, who provided an “emotional reception” for 88-year-old coaching legend Otto Rehhagel as he shared the sidelines with Thomas Schaaf. The match resulted in a 4-3 victory for the Werder Bremen legends. Goals for the German side were scored by Sokratis, Markus Rosenberg, Angelos Charisteas, and Diego, while Real Madrid’s goals were provided by Rubén de la Red, José Callejón, and Luis García. The rosters featured notable former players including Ailton and Per Mertesacker for Bremen, while the Real Madrid side included Pepe, Claude Makélélé, and Esteban Cambiasso. A unique highlight of the match was a hydration break where players were served beer and spirits, a gesture referencing a historical incident at the stadium.
