Academic institutions in West Africa are launching various research and scholarship programs to address regional challenges. In Ghana, the University of Environment and Sustainable Development partnered with Maleka Farms Limited to establish the Maleka Excellence Scholarship for Aquaculture Students (MESAS), providing financial aid for students in water resources and aquaculture management.

Furthering regional cooperation, the University for Development Studies in Ghana is collaborating with institutions across Africa and Europe through the EU-funded WARM Project. This initiative focuses on developing postgraduate curricula in waste management to address technical expertise gaps in recycling and sustainable resource management across West Africa.
