Regional efforts to coordinate digital asset policy in West Africa have progressed through a series of high-level summits. Following earlier initiatives in Dakar and Abidjan, Alliance Fintech UEMOA announced the Africa Blockchain & Crypto Conference (ABCC) for November 2026 in Cotonou, Benin. This upcoming event seeks to establish a coordinated operational agenda for the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), focusing on monetary sovereignty, stablecoins, and the security of financial infrastructures.

In Accra, Ghana, the Digital Assets Summit Africa (DASA) 2026 brought together over 1,000 participants to discuss central bank regulations and the tokenization of real-world assets under the theme ‘From Policy to Prosperity.’ A major outcome was a strategic initiative to bridge the gap between Anglophone and Francophone Africa. Angela Akua Asante of the African Media Agency (AMA) called for an end to the historic divide excluding Francophone stakeholders from Ghanaian technological gatherings. Supported by the Togo-based Hyver Organization, AMA Ghana is acting as a bilingual bridge to connect Anglophone hubs with markets in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and Togo to address regional trade finance deficits.

Furthering this regulatory momentum, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ghana, has announced the Africa Virtual Asset Summit (AVAS) 2026, scheduled for November 2–3 in Accra. Themed ‘Tokenisation: Africa’s Pathway Towards Building a Trusted, Inclusive and Innovative Virtual Asset Ecosystem,’ the summit aims to produce the ‘Accra Declaration.’ This framework intends to establish shared principles for responsible virtual asset ecosystems across the continent. Director-General Dr. James Klutse Avedzi emphasized that growth must be supported by frameworks that protect investors, noting that Ghana currently utilizes the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2025 (Act 1154) as its legal foundation.
