Authorities in West Africa have issued flood warnings for Nigeria and Ghana due to rising water levels.

In Nigeria, the Kano state government is responding to warnings from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency by conducting multi-agency assessments of dams, rehabilitating drainage systems, and performing waste evacuation through ‘Operation Tsaf-Tsaf’ to prevent drainage obstructions.

In Ghana, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has alerted residents in the Kumbungu District as water levels at the Nawuni intake reached 23.85 feet. Officials are monitoring the White Volta for potential overflows, specifically regarding potential water spillage from the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso. NADMO has pre-positioned a Rapid Response Team in Walewale to assist with emergency operations and potential evacuations.
