Infrastructure upgrades are being implemented on Tasmania’s West Tamar Highway through a joint investment by the Australian and Tasmanian governments.

Initial work focused on a section between Freshwater Point Road and Acropolis Drive in Legana, which included the construction of shared paths and painted bike lanes to assist cyclists in bypassing multi-lane roundabouts.

Subsequent phases of the project involve upgrades to the Forest Road intersection in Trevallyn. These improvements include the installation of new traffic and pedestrian signals, modifications to medians and traffic islands, the addition of a left-turn lane, a pedestrian refuge, and a bicycle lane. Higher impact construction for this stage is scheduled to occur between early September and late October 2026.
