Wildlife authorities in Mexico, Peru, and Bolivia have conducted several operations to rescue animals from illegal trafficking and improper care.

In August 2026, personnel in Tequisquiapan, Mexico, assisted a juvenile caracara, while specialists in Oxapampa, Peru, rescued two pichico monkeys from illegal trafficking. The primates were reintegrated into Yanachaga Chemillén National Park following veterinary evaluations.

By September 2026, authorities in Michoacán, Mexico, coordinated with the army and National Guard to rescue a black and white spider monkey found tied to a tree. In La Paz, Bolivia, police and environmental forces seized a capuchin monkey being kept as a pet in a restaurant, subsequently transferring the animal to the Senda Verde center for specialized care.
