Authorities in Brazil have conducted separate operations targeting the illegal possession and smuggling of native wildlife.

In Guapimirim, Rio de Janeiro, environmental police from the Comando de Polícia Ambiental (CPAm) seized seven wild birds being held in illegal captivity at a local bar. While some birds had documentation, undocumented animals and cages were confiscated for legal evaluation.

In a separate incident in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, Federal Revenue officers intercepted a couple attempting to transport 32 native bird eggs on an interstate bus. The shipment, valued at approximately R$ 9 million on the European market, was being moved toward Galeão International Airport in Rio de Janeiro. The smugglers utilized a sophisticated incubation system involving thermal boxes, electronic circuits, and sensors to maintain embryo survival. The suspects were taken into custody, and the eggs were transferred to the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) for preservation.
