Following a poor start to the Eredivisie season, Willem II dismissed head coach John Stegeman on October 20, 2026. The club reported that Stegeman was let go after the team secured only two points from nine matches, resulting in the lowest scoring record and the highest number of goals conceded in the league. The club stated there was “insufficient perspective to continue the collaboration.”

Adrie Koster, who was serving as a technical advisor, was initially appointed as interim head coach. On October 27, 2026, the club appointed Jurgen Streppel as the new head coach through the end of the season. Streppel, who previously managed the Tilburg-based club between 2011 and 2016, succeeds Stegeman to address the team’s position at the bottom of the league.
