Sources: 20. Developments: 5. The Wisconsin Badgers football team is contending for a national ranking following a period of competitive play. After establishing a 4-1 record and securing a significant victory over Penn State, the team remains the highest-ranked unranked team in the AP Poll. In their matchup at the Rose Bowl, the No. 12 UCLA Bruins defeated Wisconsin 17-7, improving their record to 6-0 and maintaining their undefeated status in the Big Ten. This victory marks the first time the Bruins have reached a 6-0 record since 2022, and head coach Bob Chesney becomes the first UCLA coach to achieve this start to his tenure. Following the win, UCLA moved up to No. 9 in the national rankings. UCLA utilized backup quarterback Ty Dieffenbach, who completed 22 of 33 passes for 264 yards in his first career start, following a season-ending knee injury to Nico Iamaleava. While Wisconsin’s defense limited the Bruins' run game, holding Wayne Knight to 23 yards on 13 carries, UCLA secured scoring through touchdown runs by Knight and Anthony Woods. The Wisconsin defense struggled on third downs, as UCLA converted 13 of 20 attempts and maintained possession for over 37 minutes. Wisconsin (4-2) faced significant difficulties with discipline and offensive production during the loss, committing 10 penalties for 102 yards. Head coach Luke Fickell attributed the defeat to poor discipline and defensive struggles on third downs. Offensively, the Badgers were limited to 214 total yards. Quarterback Colton Joseph completed 6 of 16 passes for 66 yards while facing pressure on 16 of his 21 dropbacks. Despite the loss, Wisconsin saw individual defensive performances from safety Marvin Burks Jr., who recorded two interceptions, and edge rusher Nick Clayton, who earned his first collegiate sack. ## Claims - Ty Dieffenbach will make his first FBS start at quarterback for UCLA against Wisconsin.
