Authorities in Italy are investigating multiple incidents involving the deaths and injuries of protected wolves in the Tuscany region. Initial reports from the Pisa province detailed the deaths of a female wolf in Vecchiano, a wolf cub in the Arena Metato area, and a young male in Viano. Local officials noted that the male wolf appeared to have been killed by gunfire. Because wolves are a protected species under Italian law, these killings are being treated as criminal offenses by the Carabinieri Forestale. Following these events, the National Animal Protection Agency (Enpa) filed a formal complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office in Arezzo. Investigations in the province revealed further violence, including a wolf that died from a gunshot wound sustained outside of the legal hunting season near Molinelli. Other incidents involved a wolf in Pieve al Toppo found with pellets in its body and a female wolf injured by pellets after a vehicle collision on the SR71. Enpa is currently collaborating with the Regional Task Force and the Carabinieri Forestali to investigate these acts of wildlife violence. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-05: Arezzo: Enpa files complaint over wolf killings and shootings Enpa has denounced the killing and wounding of several wolves in Arezzo, Italy, reporting gunshot wounds and pellets found in animals, and is pursuing legal action through the Public Prosecutor. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/arezzo-enpa-files-complaint-over-wolf-killings-and-shootings ### 2026-09-27: Italy investigates deaths of protected wolves in Tuscany Italian authorities are investigating the deaths of wolves in Tuscany, including a shot female in Pisa and a young wolf in Viano, following reports of illegal killings of the protected species. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/italy-investigates-deaths-of-protected-wolves-in-tuscany --- Cite as: Wolf killings in Tuscany, Italy.
