Authorities in various Italian regions are responding to an increase in wolf sightings near inhabited areas. In the Varese province, specifically within the Campo dei Fiori Regional Park, officials are monitoring individual specimens in dispersal following reports of animals entering town centers. Local authorities, including the Park President and the University of Insubria, are coordinating meetings to manage the situation, supported by systematic camera trap monitoring.

In the Marche region, local administrations and UNCEM Marche are implementing safety measures to manage wolves that have become ‘confident wolves’—animals accustomed to human presence. To protect public safety and domestic animals, officials have launched information campaigns advising residents to secure pets, use adequate livestock fencing, and avoid leaving food scraps or organic waste outdoors. These efforts aim to balance human safety with the protection of the species under national and European law.
