Sources: 13. Developments: 2. At the UCI Road World Championships in Montréal, Dutch cyclist Demi Vollering secured her first career road world championship title. Following an intense 180-kilometer race, Vollering won via a sprint finish against Poland’s Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney, who earned the silver medal. Italian rider Elisa Longo Borghini completed the podium, finishing four seconds later. Vollering’s victory was defined by a high-stakes tactical move in which she launched a solo attack approximately 38 kilometers from the finish line on the Voie Camilien-Houde climb. While the chasing group reduced her lead to within thirty seconds before the final lap, Vollering maintained her position to win the sprint. Analysts noted that her ability to “remain calm under pressure” was a key factor in her performance. This victory adds to a successful season for Vollering, which includes wins at the Ronde van Vlaanderen and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Following her performance, Niewiadoma-Phinney announced she will join the Lidl-Trek team in 2027 after eight years with Canyon/SRAM Racing, with a contract running through the end of 2028. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-29: Demi Vollering wins women's road world championship in Montréal Demi Vollering captured her first road world championship title in Montréal, winning a high-intensity sprint against Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney after a decisive tactical battle. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/demi-vollering-wins-world-championship-as-niewiadoma-phinney-joins-lidl-trek ### 2026-09-26: Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney wins silver at Cycling World Championships Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney won the silver medal in the women's road race at the World Cycling Championships in Montreal, finishing just behind Demi Vollering. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/katarzyna-niewiadoma-phinney-wins-silver-at-cycling-world-championships --- Cite as: Women's road cycling World Championships in Montreal.
