Following public outrage over recent incidents of sexual harassment and assault in the Samastipur and Jamui districts, political leaders have pressured the Bihar state government to address women’s safety. Shambhavi Choudhary of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) met with Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary to demand “speedy, impartial investigations and effective prosecution” to combat an atmosphere of insecurity.

In response to these concerns and political criticism regarding law and order, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary pledged that legal action against those targeting or harming women would be taken within 24 hours. During a public programme in the Rohtas district, the Chief Minister stated that immediate action had already been initiated regarding several recent incidents involving women that were captured on video.
