World Standards Day, observed on October 14, is an annual event promoted by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The observance honors specialists who develop international standards to meet societal, market, and legislative requirements, while facilitating new technologies and preventing injuries or deaths from accidents, natural disasters, and epidemics.

Recent focus has emphasized the role of technical standards in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 7 regarding affordable and clean energy. Standards are viewed as essential for the global energy transition and as a common language to ensure quality, safety, and compatibility across industries. Additionally, the date coincides with World Sight Day and various religious commemorations.
