Following his move from STVV to Heart of Midlothian, manager Wouter Vrancken addressed Belgian media criticism regarding a difficult start to his tenure. Early challenges included losses in European qualifiers and a squad rebuild. Vrancken noted he declined more lucrative offers, such as a contract from Ludogorets, to prioritize the project at Hearts.

Since those initial struggles, the club has secured a spot in the Conference League and moved to third place in the league. This success sets the stage for a Scottish League Cup semi-final matchup against Hibernian, managed by Marink Reedijk. The fixture carries personal significance as Reedijk was reportedly considered during the Hearts recruitment process but was not selected, leading him to join Hibernian instead.
