Wrocław is implementing a new waste management system, marked by a 33 percent increase in monthly disposal fees to 55 PLN per person. Officials have noted that this rate remains below the statutory maximum of 70 PLN.

To improve oversight and accountability, the municipal company Ekosystem has launched six separate tenders for waste collection across different city sectors. These contracts are expected to last four years, with a total estimated value of approximately 2 billion PLN. The procurement follows previous difficulties that had left the city’s waste management system in a state of uncertainty.

Under the new system, service providers must equip garbage trucks with advanced monitoring technology, including RFID identification systems, video monitoring, and legal scales. These tools are designed to track waste weight, identify specific containers being emptied, and monitor collection timing to ensure proper segregation and increase oversight regarding the volume and quality of waste disposed of by residents.

Additionally, new regulations mandate more frequent cleaning and disinfection of containers: three times a year for mixed waste and four times a year for bio-waste.
