In mid-October 2026, the Minister of Water and Environment, Tawfiq al-Sharjabi, signed an agreement in Aden with the Sela Foundation for Development. Funded by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen, this 12-month project focuses on strengthening urban water systems in Taiz. The initiative includes rehabilitating distribution networks, developing water sources, and expanding renewable energy use to benefit over 67,000 individuals. Shortly thereafter, Yemeni ministers joined international partners in Amman, Jordan, to launch the Improving Water and Irrigation Management for Sustainability and Efficiency (I-WISE) project. Supported by the World Bank, the Netherlands, UNDP, and UNOPS, this initiative addresses groundwater depletion and inefficient irrigation.
