Sources: 40. Developments: 6. The Yomiuri Giants are navigating a period of organizational instability following the May resignation of former manager Shinnosuke Abe. Abe resigned amid allegations of domestic violence, though he was not indicted in June. Reports indicate the club has invited Abe to return to the organization, potentially in a scouting or organizational capacity, following a petition signed by over 130,000 fans. Interim manager Hideki Hashigami led the team to a second-place finish before being eliminated in the Climax Series. On October 13, Hashigami reported to owner Juichi Yamaguchi that the recent six-month period was “turbulent,” noting a lack of slugging power. Hashigami was expected to step down. On October 22, the club announced that legendary slugger Hideki Matsui has been named the new manager on a three-year contract. Matsui, who previously played ten seasons for the Giants, will wear uniform number 90 in tribute to his mentor, Shigeo Nagashima. During a press conference on October 23, Matsui expressed joy at returning to his “hometown.” Matsui officially assumed his role on October 30. During initial facility inspections, Matsui reacted with humor after encountering pitcher Yuhi Nishitachi sleeping in the training room. Industry reactions to his appointment have been mixed; while many fans and former teammates expressed optimism, former player Tatsuro Hirooka warned that the front office must provide adequate support and coaching staff, noting that “star power alone does not guarantee managerial effectiveness.” Matsui has since emphasized a philosophy of individual responsibility for players during the upcoming autumn training camp. ## Claims - SoftBank secured negotiation rights for Taisei Suzuki after competing with Lotte.
