In September, the non-partisan platform Política Nueva Generación RD held its inaugural ‘Conectar para Liderar’ forum at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. The event brought together over 150 participants to discuss the role of young people in public life and the cultivation of new political leadership. Concurrently, political leader Tony Guevara commemorated the anniversary of Amin Abel Hasbún’s assassination, calling on youth to honor his legacy of social equality. By October, the focus shifted toward educational recognition with the launch of the ‘Estudiante de la Semana’ (Student of the Week) initiative. Coordinated by the Presidency and the Ministry of Education, the program honors students for academic achievement, leadership, and community impact. Initial recipients include Enmy Carolina Ureña Abreu for her work in road safety education and Hillary Albania Bonilla Mendoza for her performance in a national social sciences olympiad. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-09: Dominican Republic launches Student of the Week initiative The Dominican Republic has launched the ‘Estudiante de la Semana’ initiative to recognize student talent, leadership, and community impact beyond academic grades. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/dominican-republic-launches-student-of-the-week-initiative ### 2026-09-24: Dominican Republic youth leadership highlighted in forums and commemorations Political organizations and leaders in the Dominican Republic are emphasizing youth leadership through forums and commemorations of historical figures like Amin Abel Hasbún. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/dominican-republic-youth-leadership-highlighted-in-forums-and-commemorations --- Cite as: Youth leadership and engagement in Dominican Republic.
