The National Electoral Institute (INE) has launched an ‘Annual Intense Campaign’ across Mexican states, including Tamaulipas and Coahuila, to facilitate early voter registration for youth.

In Tamaulipas, 17-year-olds who will turn 18 by June 6, 2027, are eligible to apply for voter identification credentials between September 1, 2026, and January 25, 2027. Officials noted the state’s electoral roll currently covers approximately 98% of its nominal list.

Similarly, in Coahuila, the INE is allowing minors who will turn 18 before June 6 to begin the identification process. Officials have advised those turning 18 in the spring months to apply immediately, as registration processes are scheduled to be suspended in February. The institute reports that its electoral roll in the region is also near 98 percent updated.
