Yuki Matsui has provided significant relief pitching for the San Diego Padres during the 2026 season.

In mid-September, Matsui recorded his first save of the season during a 6-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants. This performance contributed to a seven-game winning streak for the Padres and helped extend their lead over the wild card cutoff. At that time, Matsui maintained a 1.98 ERA across 48 appearances.

By early October, Matsui continued to play a key role in high-pressure situations, successfully extinguishing a bases-loaded threat with two outs during a tie game, which preceded a Padres lead established by a Manny Machado home run.
