Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal announced his retirement from first-class cricket, effective October 2, 2026. The 36-year-old veteran played his final red-ball match for Northamptonshire against Middlesex at Lord’s during the 2026 County Championship.

Chahal concluded his first-class career with 148 wickets in 49 matches at an average of 32.27. His final stint in the County Championship was notably successful, yielding 21 wickets in five matches at an average of 16.14. Despite these achievements, Chahal noted that his lifelong dream of playing Test cricket for India remained unfulfilled.

While retiring from the red-ball format, Chahal stated he is not leaving the sport entirely and intends to focus on white-ball cricket, specifically One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20s, in hopes of further representing the Indian national team.
