Swiss player Zachary Athekamesi has seen significant professional growth during a loan spell at Olympique Lyonnais from AC Milan. Initially reported as an effective full-back, his performance has evolved into a breakout season where he has become a key figure for the French club, contributing two goals and three assists across nine appearances. His crossing ability has drawn comparisons to David Beckham, with L’Équipe suggesting he ‘must have a Beckham VHS at home.’

His club success has translated to international play, earning him multiple call-ups to the Swiss national team. While his development has been highly positive, his future remains a subject of transfer speculation. AC Milan manager Rúben Amorim has been monitoring his progress, with reports indicating Milan has evaluated recalling the defender during the January transfer window to address depth issues on the right flank.

However, Olympique Lyonnais has pushed back against these rumors. Head coach Paulo Fonseca has dismissed speculation regarding an early return as ‘fake news,’ despite reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting Milan seeks to bolster their squad. Lyon’s sporting direction intends to keep the player for the remainder of the season, refusing to end the loan period prematurely.
