The City of Zagreb is expanding social infrastructure for individuals on the autism spectrum through both renovations and new construction.

In late August 2026, the city initiated a 250,000 euro procurement process to renovate the sports hall at the existing Autism Center on Ljevakovićeva Street. The project includes upgrading flooring, gymnastics equipment, windows, and safety features to improve conditions for users.

By mid-September 2026, progress moved toward a larger-scale development as the city issued a construction permit for a new 35 million euro Autism Center in Oporovac. This facility, which has been proposed for over twenty years, is designed to support approximately 200 children. The project is partially funded by 19.3 million euros from European Union funds via the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Construction for the 9,600 square meter facility is scheduled to begin in summer 2027 and is expected to take 18 months.
