Zalando has announced the closure of its Erfurt-Vieselbach logistics center, scheduled for completion by the end of September. The closure is part of a strategic realignment of the company’s European logistics network following its acquisition of the fashion retailer About You. The move is expected to result in the gradual release of approximately 2,700 employees, though a small number of staff will remain until summer 2027 to oversee decommissioning.

Legal tensions have emerged as 109 employees filed lawsuits against the company following dismissal notices. While a social plan was established for the affected workforce, Zalando has reportedly refused to fund a transfer company to assist with new employment. Conciliation hearings at the Erfurt Labor Court have so far ended without agreement. 

In response to the anticipated rise in local unemployment, Zalando has organized a job fair to connect workers with other logistics firms. The company intends to establish a new logistics site in Gießen.
