Zimbabwe and Malawi competed in a two-legged matchup for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games women’s football qualifiers in October 2026.

Prior to the series, Zimbabwe’s head coach Stella Gotal finalized a 24-player squad for the Mighty Warriors, while Malawi’s Scorchers bolstered their roster with foreign-based players despite facing injuries and logistical issues.

Malawi secured progression to the next stage of the qualifiers following a 2-0 victory in the first leg in Lilongwe and a 7-0 victory in the return leg in Harare. The Scorchers achieved a 9-0 aggregate win, which eliminated Zimbabwe from the competition. Temwa Chawinga recorded a hat-trick during the final match. Following the win, Scorchers head coach Lovemore Fazili stated that while the performance was a “statement of intent,” the team still has areas to polish.
