Sources: 14. Developments: 2. The Zorros del Desierto Stadium in Calama is facing administrative scrutiny following a report from the Regional Comptroller of Antofagasta. The audit revealed that the facility has been operating without a valid building permit or final work reception since its provisional permit expired in July 2016. Initially, the report raised concerns regarding the potential closure of the venue, which is used by the football club Cobreloa. Calama Mayor Eliecer Chamorro noted that while the report highlighted serious irregularities, it did not explicitly mandate an immediate shutdown. The municipality has since initiated an administrative inquiry to address the decade-long oversight. As the situation progressed, the municipal administration clarified that the stadium would remain open. Mayor Chamorro stated that the observations are administrative matters being addressed through a proposal submitted to the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism. The regularization process is expected to take between three and six months, with local council members noting that these issues have persisted through multiple previous administrations. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-04: Calama municipal stadium faces administrative scrutiny after expired permit The Calama Municipal Council is debating the use of the Zorros del Desierto Stadium after a Contraloría report revealed its provisional permit expired in 2016. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/calama-municipal-stadium-faces-administrative-scrutiny-after-expired-permit ### 2026-09-23: Zorros del Desierto Stadium faces closure due to permit irregularities The Zorros del Desierto Stadium faces potential closure due to expired building permits, threatening Cobreloa's home matches during their Primera B promotion race.
