Microsoft releases emergency Windows updates to fix Remote Desktop and Hyper-V bugs

Microsoft has released emergency out-of-band (OOB) updates for Windows 11 and Windows Server to resolve critical stability and security issues introduced by the September 2026 security patch. The primary issues addressed include failures in Remote Desktop Services (RDS), which caused connection instability, sign-in errors, and unresponsive servers.

The updates also resolve problems with Hyper-V, where host folders shared via the Plan9 protocol were inaccessible within Linux virtual machines. Additionally, the patches address issues affecting certain USB Audio Class 1.0 devices, which failed when using multichannel, 8-channel, or 3D audio modes.

Beyond stability, the emergency releases include security fixes for privilege escalation vulnerabilities, such as CVE-2026-62721. While these updates target several versions, including Windows 11 23H2, 24H2, 25H2, and 26H1, some reported issues—such as system freezes on AMD Radeon graphics and certain USB audio Code 10 errors—may still require further resolutions.
