President Jörn Stobbe described Wagner as a “long-term FC coach” and praised his performance, suggesting that a dismissal is not imminent. This development follows earlier reports suggesting that the upcoming derby against Borussia Mönchengladbach might determine Wagner's future.

While rumors had circulated regarding a possible agreement with former Werder coach Horst Steffen—who was recently seen at the club's premises watching a U21 match—the club has denied any meeting between Steffen and the sporting management.
