1. FC Magdeburg faces FC Bayern München in DFB-Pokal rematch

1. FC Magdeburg is preparing for a DFB-Pokal matchup against FC Bayern München at the Allianz Arena on October 28. The upcoming fixture has drawn comparisons to a historic upset that occurred 26 years ago.

On November 1, 2000, Magdeburg, then an Oberliga side, defeated the German champions FC Bayern München 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. During that match, goalkeeper Miroslav Dreszer saved two penalties from Jens Jeremies and Giovane Elber, while Dirk Hannemann scored the decisive penalty against Oliver Kahn.

Currently competing in the second division, Magdeburg sits in sixth place with ten points. Despite being significant underdogs, the team, led by coaches Petrik Sander and Pascal Ibold, is expected to travel to Munich with high motivation.
