100 Mile House timber supply analysis presented to council
The District of 100 Mile House has been presented with a Timber Supply Analysis Discussion Paper detailing the current and projected timber availability for the 100 Mile House Timber Supply Area (TSA). Kane Copley, a strategic land manager for the Ministry of Forests, delivered the findings during a recent council meeting.
The review, which utilized data collected between January and May, will assist the chief forester in determining a new allowable annual cut (AAC) for the region. This process is required at least once every 10 years under the Forest Act. The analysis examines how forest management practices and legal requirements impact the timber supply, environment, economy, and social conditions of the area.
The 100 Mile House TSA encompasses approximately 1.24 million hectares in south-central British Columbia. Approximately 71 per cent of the land base is considered productive forest, with 68 per cent of that productive land base available for harvesting.
