104-year-old man denied bail in 26-year-old murder case

A 104-year-old man, Nur Mohammad, has been sent to prison after surrendering to the Dhaka Fourth Fast Track Tribunal in connection with a 26-year-old robbery and double murder case.

The incident dates back to December 30, 2000, in the Barobazar area of Kishoreganj. During a robbery at a shop owned by Md. Ferdous, a group of criminals looted 1.25 million BDT and 110 bhori of gold. Two individuals, Mosharraf Hossain and Abdul Kabir, were killed during the crime.

While originally sentenced to death in 2003, Nur Mohammad's sentence was later reduced to 10 years of imprisonment by a higher court. However, he had been absconding for over two decades. During the hearing, his lawyer argued for bail, citing his extreme age, inability to walk normally, and various complex medical conditions, including heart disease. The court rejected both the bail application and the request for special transportation, ordering him to be sent to jail.
