108 Military Central Hospital treats 84-year-old male with breast cancer

Doctors at 108 Military Central Hospital in Vietnam recently treated an 84-year-old male patient, N. X. L., diagnosed with non-specific invasive breast carcinoma (stage cT2N0M0). The patient presented with a painless, rapidly growing tumor in the right breast. Following preoperative chemotherapy, the patient underwent surgery at the hospital's Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.

Medical experts, including Specialist Tran Thi Minh Trang, emphasize that while male breast cancer accounts for less than 1% of all breast cancer cases, men should not ignore abnormalities in the chest area. Risk factors include advanced age, family history, BRCA1/BRCA2 genetic mutations, Klinefelter syndrome, chest radiation exposure, and endocrine imbalances. Common symptoms to monitor include painless lumps near the nipple, nipple retraction or deformity, nipple discharge, skin changes, or swollen lymph nodes in the armpit.
