108 Military Central Hospital treats complex abscess in Laotian patient

Doctors at 108 Military Central Hospital in Vietnam have successfully treated a Laotian man suffering from a complex, deep-seated abscess in the head, face, and neck regions.

The patient, a 49-year-old male, had experienced persistent headaches, left-sided facial swelling, tongue numbness, and difficulty eating for approximately one month. Despite previous medical treatment in Laos, his symptoms did not fully resolve, prompting him to seek specialized care in Vietnam.

Medical evaluations revealed that the abscess had spread through multiple deep anatomical spaces, including the parapharyngeal, masticator, submandibular, and parotid spaces. The infection also extended into the pterygomandibular fossa, a deep and complex area closely linked to vital structures. Surgeons utilized a combination of endoscopic and open surgical methods to drain the infection and control the deep abscesses. Following the procedure, the patient's condition stabilized, his pain significantly decreased, and he has regained the ability to eat normally.
