10‑year‑old Elyas Sultan dies after month‑long battle following fatal Mantua crash

On 1 July, a Toyota Corolla driven by 38‑year‑old Azizi Sultan left the road on provincial road 56 in San Michele in Bosco, Marcaria, in the province of Mantua, Italy. The crash killed the driver instantly and left his two sons severely injured. The younger son, 10‑year‑old Elyas Sultan, was air‑lifted to the Carlo Poma Hospital in Brescia after his condition worsened. Despite intensive care and multiple surgeries, Elyas died more than a month later. His older brother remains hospitalized but is out of immediate danger. Local emergency services, including the fire brigade, Carabinieri and medical teams, responded to the scene, and investigations indicated the vehicle left the carriageway on its own. The tragedy has deepened the mourning in the Marcaria community, which had already been grieving the loss of the father.
