11-year-old Bernardo Rocha dies after convulsion at Bertioga school in Brazil

Bernardo Augusto Rocha, an 11-year-old student, suffered a sudden convulsion while at school in Bertioga, São Paulo, on 30 July. School staff contacted his family and called emergency services. He was first taken in a private vehicle to the Unidade Bertioguense de Especialidades Médicas (Unibem) and then transferred by ambulance to the Bertioga municipal hospital’s emergency department. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead. The death was recorded as suspicious by the local police. Rumors on social media suggested the boy had been struck on the head, but the Bertioga municipality denied any such incident, stating no record of a head injury appears in school or medical reports. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of death.
