Crotone province crash on State Road 107 kills woman, horses involved

During the night of 19‑20 June 2026, two cars collided on State Road 107 at kilometre 108.4 near Caccuri in the province of Crotone. The crash was triggered by the presence of a dead horse on the carriageway and two other horses wandering nearby. A female passenger was trapped in one vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of that car and the occupants of the second vehicle were injured and taken to hospital. Emergency services – fire‑fighters, ambulance crews, Carabinieri and the traffic police – secured the site, removed the animal carcass with a crane and rescued the loose horses. The road was closed to traffic from 23:30 until about 05:40 am while rescue and clean‑up operations were carried out. Police investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collision.
